Airline route plan faces some questions
The emergency request for proposals to take over the Essential Air Service routes came after Big Sky announced plans to end service Jan. 7 because of heavy financial losses. "Obviously, we got only the one bid" to assume service to Watertown, Massena and Ogdensburg, Mosley said. Two other communities, Plattsburgh and Saranac Lake, will see their Big Sky routes assumed by Hyannis, Mass.-based Cape Air sometime in February. Cape Air has a code-share arrangement with JetBlue Airways in Boston. Boston-Maine, which flies under the name Pan Am Clipper, lacks code-share arrangements, although Watertown's Hagemann said airline officials told him they were pursuing such an arrangement with a major carrier serving Albany International Airport, which they didn't identify. North Country officials have said they'd like to see a code-share with Southwest Airlines at Albany.
